Friday 19th, Saturday 20th, Sunday 21st of November
I don't think that much happened during these three days, other than finding out whether or not one had supps. For those not UNSW based, or just don't know what a supp is, it's a "supplementary exam" for a subject in the circumstance where one failed only by a small amount, and has shown a solid effort across the semester in terms of attendance and performance. My heart was racing when I checked the supp list and because I'm not on it - I've either passed or failed so miserably that I didn't deserve a supp.
Monday 22nd November
A generally tame day. I woke up early to get tickets for me, duckie and panda to go see lupe fiasco. I was up for a pretty stressful couple of minutes once the clock hit 9 (i.e. when ticket sales started) but, much to my surprise, tickets were fairly easy to get. I don't even think the show's sold out yet. I'm a bag of emotions in regards to this, because yes, I easily got tix to see my main man live, but i've also realised that not many people share the same feelings in regards to him. He's never been mainstream (and I'd like to keep it that way, because i'm a hipster, lulz) though I'd like to see him get at least some more recognition for his work. Tickets to Lil Wayne sell out within a few minutes. Something is wrong with the world.
I don't think I got up to much during the rest of that day...all the days seem to bunch together into one now.
Tuesday 23rd November
A very nice day spent with an old friend. Sarah and I decided to see what all the fuss was about regarding the new pitt st mall/sydney westfield thingo so we trekked out to the city for a nice day out. Sarah decided that, because she is waking up so much earlier these days, that it was a good idea to meet at 10am. Boy, did we regret that decision. Haha the first thing we said to each other was , "ugh! too early!"
We caught up on uni and exams and holidays and boys and everything. We went to eat yum cha and it was there where we learnt that we are not very adventurous with our orders. My usual is the dumplings (sieu mai and ha kau i think they're called) and that rice noodle thingo with prawns. I pretty much eat a couple of servings of that and I'm done. It was very much the same on Sarah's end. We're not too good at this yum cha thing.
We did a bit of shopping and I bought a heap of shit. I finally got my hands on the new kid cudi album and I have to say it is slightly disappointing. I've given it about 7 listens and there's some really catchy stuff, but it's just not as deep as the first album. It's very slowed down and mellow, good for a chill, but it didn't take me on a journey like the first one did. Cudi aimed for it to be a concept album, what with the five 'acts' it is organised around, but it just didn't hit it for me. There are some tracks on there which are very impressive though; particularly REVOFEV and mojo so dope...and maybe it doesn't deserve all my criticism, because in the end, I did thoroughly enjoy it. Time to take my music critic cap off.
I bought a very beautiful maxi dress from sportsgirl as well - not the one i posted up before sadly, but a very nice one nonetheless. They were having a pretty crazy sale, 20% off already reduced items! oh my gahhhh!
At the end of the day Sarah went home a bit earlier and I waited around for duckie. He had a couple of exams on that day and I took the train home with him. Duckie has a very special exam technique - let's just say it's very duck-like - which makes talking about exams with him quite different to the usual, "oh my god i can't believe i answered it like that i'm going to fail". It's actually quite amusing but I'll leave it to duckie to comment on it on his blog :). He's a very charming waterfowl so every bone in my body says he didn't fail.
Wednesday 24th November
Duckie finished his exams this day so I shouted him dinner for being such a good waterfowl. Duckie initially wanted some red rooster so we ventured to the one at edensor park (?). I get mixed up with my suburbs. Unfortunately, they were closed for the night so we took a bit of a look around. We decided to eat at maccas (the old dependable). Duckie was still hungry though so we set off for KFC! Unfortunately they only had chicken wings left so we actually ended up going to a different maccas to buy the new popcorn chicken rip-off they had. I bought a mcflurry for toad. Wow we sound like fat bogans.
Thursday 25th November
I don't remember anything that happened this day. I think I pretty much spent it catching up on marking ze homeworkz of ze children and I'm pretty sure Duckie came over as well, just to keep me company.
Friday 26th November
Another big day. I caught up with a relatively new/old/i dunno friend, will. I met him at the start of the year in my maths tute - pretty much the only class I didn't have with Sharon so I was forced to make new friends. Haha that's not to say that he's not good company. We slowly realised that we had the exact same timetable on our fridays and it was just good to have someone to share food with during that big block of classes.
Duckie offered to drive me to the station in the morning and I told him that he could come over a bit earlier just for some chill time. I swear I've had a bit of Duckie in my daily regime ever since holidays started hehe.
I missed my first train to the city so Duckie bought some lunch and just sat with me on a bench at the station and we chatted. And so this signals the first reference to the title of this blog. I've been dying for some good conversation lately from everyone I miss - whether it be quick catch ups, joking around or maybe even something a little deep and meaningful. I did talk quite a bit to sarah during our little date but none of it was on benches - although there was a particularly nice exchange over a table in a food court with our boost juices in hand. I've found that just taking some time off and sitting on a bench to talk can be very rewarding and is actually very fun.
Duckie made sure my heart was in the right place and saw me off when my train came. I spent the train trip just looking over my teaching notes for the night. Damn children. I love them but I hate them so.
Will messaged me to say that he was shit hungry and that he regretted ever asking to have lunch together. I just told him to man up.
I actually navigated my way out of the train station and to the woolies in front of town hall very efficiently, which I thought was quite the feat considering I have no sense of direction, especially when I'm in the city. Saw will and hurried off to lunch at the food court beneath myer on pitt st. It was crazy packed and we found a little corner on the end of a table already filled with people. It was a tight squeeze - which might explain how I spilled will's lunch all over his pants. After a good laugh and him restating his regret of asking me out to lunch, i apologised and he said that everything should come out in the wash - that's what washing machines are for.
He showed me the frisbee he had in his bag and insisted that we have a couple of throws at hyde park. I unwillingly agreed, seeing as I was in a skirt and still pretty full from the maccas I ate (yes, maccas again). We got there and realised we still needed to process some food, so we just, cue reference to title, sat on a bench and had a nice talk. The trees were acting as a good wind tunnel and I was a bit cold, so we moved our asses to a different bench in the sun and continued to talk. We covered everything - what we wanted to do with our lives, what our parents are like, how uni was for the year and our love lives. There was a man with a leaf blower near us and will deduced that he just donned on a fluoro orange shirt and went about his day trying to annoy people with hayfever. I thought the man's intentions were more golden, saying that he just wanted to spread the debris over the entire area of hyde park, as opposed to just one spot. There was a couple doing their wedding photo shoot and it was very cheesy to watch.
We finally took the frisbee out for a couple of throws and will was glad that I didn't end up hitting him on the head. I had work later on in the arvo so I decided that it was time to head home. We walked to town hall and wished each other a good christmas and new year's and I was just in time for a train. I know our meet-ups are few and far between, but I think he's a friend I'll keep.
Went home to have dinner (eagle boys pizza, yeow! it's a wonder why i'm not fat yet) before heading out to teach. We covered the distributive law and harder distributive law in class today. I emphasised so many things so many times. Hopefully the class will bear some fruit this week in their homework.
Duckie came over after I finished work and I caught him up about my day. He's such a good waterfowl friend to me and we just kicked it duckie-swan style as per usual.
Saturday 27th November
I was supposed to cover for Linhstylez at the centre but she got The King to take her class instead. Duckie came over for lunch (chicken and tomato rice, duckie's favourite) and offered to drive Hannah to meet up with her friends at Parramatta Westfield for some Christmas shopping. Duckie and I figured we might as well spend the time exploring Parramatta town as well and 're-enact' the time we bumped into each other, lulz. We got there pretty unscathed and parked on the roof. Then we saw Hannah off and decided to go off on our own little tangent, telling Hannah to meet us by a quarter to 4 in order to avoid parking fees and to get home at a reasonable time. Duckie and I headed to outside of the shopping centre and it was truly a beautiful day. The sun was shining and there was just an upbeat feeling to the town. We bought a boost juice and just, cue reference to title, sat on a bench and had a chat. The juice nearly went up and out of my nose once or twice when he was recounting some of the antics of him and his friends during his high school days. alex ngo...and chris kiss. are best friends...forever more. It was lovely just sitting there and enjoying each other's company. We went into a cash converters and a strong sense of nostalgia was evoked when we went through the CDs available and saw many hits of the past. There were kazoos and swords - the works basically. I came out one dvd richer - 'Love Actually', you are finally mine. and for five dorrars too!
Time went by pretty quick and we needed to go back into the shopping centre to meet up with hannah. Saw the little tyke and were aiming to get home by about 4:30. Confidently walked to the parking lot (we remembered where we parked this time!), got into the car, started the engine, attempted to put the car into 'drive'...and failed. The Duckmobile's dashboard was just dead and the gear stick (i think it's called, i don't really know, don't judge me) refused to budge from the 'park' position. After a lot of frustration and hitting the dashboard, we decided to call the nrma. It was a good while before they came and 'fixed' up a broken fuse (i think it was? i don't know the specifics...). Thanked the nice nrma man and proceeded on our way home, only to have the dashboard shut off once more on the road. None of our signal lights were working, nor the speedometer or odometer for that matter...the CD player was working however and, come to think of it, it was actually a nice ride home using our arms as signals to merge lanes and to turn left or right. we had urban tunes pumping and everything.
Duckie dropped us off and drove his car home, knowing that if he decided to put the car into 'park' that he could not get it out again until he fixed the fuse. He came over with his sister's car later on in the night and we had some dinner and hung out again :).
Sunday 28th November
Woke up thinking that I was going to take a 6 hour marking shift for Son, but realising he already got someone to cover for him as well. I really apologise to the fam bam who I couldn't go camping with :(.
Planned Sharon's little birthday dinner and 7 of the peeps were there that night at the woodfire pizza place pretty much down the road from my house. It was a very nice evening, we caught up on things and it was really nice seeing Sharon in her holiday mode. Before the dinner, Duckie came over to help me make Sharon's cake and he got flour all over him! The peeps decided to head to bowling straight afterwards but, after much deliberation in the car on the way there, I decided to go home just to look out for the grandparentswans. I'm sorry duckie for being such a hassle :(, but thank you for understanding :).
I think that's it. That's all thus far. Man I can't write anymore. I'll go now.
